Empowering Change: Junmoni Buragohain’s Journey of Financial Inclusion
– Syeda Tambiha Nasrin
Junmoni Buragohain, a resident of Nilakh Palengi in Sissiborgaon Block, belongs to a family of eight members and is a dedicated member of the Sarathi Jivika Village Organization (VO).
Junmoni’s journey with the Mein Pragati program began when she was selected in April 2023 for the awareness initiative and officially joined on June 4, 2023. Through this program, she gained essential financial literacy and learned how community service could enhance her livelihood.
Her village faced significant challenges, including poor road connectivity and network issues that sometimes delayed her work. However, Junmoni persevered, undergoing various training sessions on financial literacy, AYP, PMJJBY, PMSBY, Faisal Bima, and Sukanya Samriddhi. She also received support in opening IPPB accounts and materials like banners for awareness meetings.
Initially, Junmoni focused on opening IPPB accounts for 200 people. She then expanded her role to include DIGIPAY transactions, particularly in flood-affected areas, distributing seeds to 22 Mahila Kisans, and raising awareness about government schemes like PM-Kisan. Additionally, she facilitated digital transactions through platforms like GPay.
On April 4, 2024, Junmoni opened a Customer Service Point (CSP). Even before its official opening, she managed transactions totaling approximately Rs. 10,44,330 from October 2023, earning a profit of Rs. 50,000.
Despite numerous challenges, Junmoni’s determination and entrepreneurial spirit have not only transformed her life but also positively impacted her community, demonstrating the power of financial inclusion initiatives.
