From Farming to Entrepreneurship – The Inspiring Journey of Rohiti Dutta

Introduction

Rohiti Dutta, a dedicated female farmer from 3 No. Borhollong village in Tinsukia District has been involved in agriculture for over a decade. A member of the Rangjuli Self-Help Group (SHG) under Pragati Village Organization (VO), she has been growing vegetables for the past ten years. However, Rohiti’s interest gradually shifted toward King Chilli cultivation, which she found to be more profitable than traditional vegetables.

Despite her keen interest in King Chilli farming, Rohiti’s efforts remained limited due to a lack of formal training and resources. Achievements and Community Impact

With improved agricultural practices and support, Rohiti was entrusted with a large-scale order of 200,000 cabbage saplings, benefiting 400 community members. Her transition from a small-scale vegetable farmer to a successful entrepreneur serves as an inspiration to others in her village. By adopting modern farming techniques such as polyhouse technology, she is setting a precedent for small-scale farmers to enhance their productivity and income.

Investment and Financial Growth

Rohiti’s total investment in King Chilli cultivation amounted to Rs 3,590, which included Rs 840 for 12 bamboo units, Rs 1,000 for ploughing over two days, Rs 700 for labour costs involving two workers, Rs 900 for a green net, and Rs 150 for other miscellaneous expenses.
