Internship, Volunteering and Scholarship

SeSTA’s Volunteer and Internship Programme offers young individuals a unique opportunity to experience the development sector through hands-on grassroots engagement. Interns from leading academic institutions across India, especially the Northeast, work across SeSTA’s various programme areas, gaining deep exposure to rural development practices. The programme is ideal for those seeking meaningful work experience while contributing to society. Interns may also design customized projects aligned with their interests and SeSTA’s needs

Purpose:

  • Inspire youth to contribute to the development sector.
  • Strengthen partnerships with educational institutions.
  • Build a pool of motivated young professionals for the sector.

 

Intern Objectives:

  • Develop an appreciation for rural realities and development challenges.
  • Apply classroom learning in real-world contexts.

 

Duration:

  • Basic: 6 weeks | Intermediate: 3 weeks (exposure-based).

The internship is unpaid; candidates must arrange their own travel, accommodation, and meals. SeSTA assists in locating suitable accommodation and assigns each intern a Field Friend– a mentor for guidance and support during the stay.

  1. Submit CV and application to hr@sesta.org.
  2. HR conducts a screening call.
  3. Shortlisted candidates must submit a recommendation letter from their Head of Department or placement cell.
  4. Selected applicants receive an official internship offer.

Through this immersive experience, interns gain insight, empathy, and practical understanding of the dynamics of rural development in Northeast India.

Scholarship Purpose & Objective
The scholarship aims to help girl students from economically weaker Adivasi and Tea Tribe households in Balipara/Rangapara (Sonitpur) and Sakhomata/Baghmara (Biswanath) pursue and complete higher education. It seeks to promote equal educational access, reduce poverty through better livelihood opportunities, empower women as future leaders, enhance community representation in professional and government sectors, and discourage unsafe migration through education and skill development.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Female student from Adivasi or Tea Tribes community.
  • Annual family income below ₹2,00,000.
  • Minimum 50% marks in the last examination.
  • Shortlisted or admitted to an eligible course.
  • Selection based on merit and income.

Scholarship Details

  • 20 students supported annually.
  • One-time assistance: ₹10,000–₹25,000 (based on course).
    • UPSC/APSC, MBBS, Engineering – ₹25,000
    • PG, Nursing, Hospitality, Polytechnic – ₹20,000
    • ITI – ₹10,000
